Introducing the JournalismAI Academy cohort for Southeast Asia
This January, we’re excited to kick off the inaugural Southeast Asia Academy for Small Newsrooms with 20 exceptional professionals learning how AI can transform journalism in the region
We are excited to start the year with the Southeast Asia Academy for Small Newsrooms programme, supported by the Google News Initiative. This is the first time the programme has focused specifically on Southeast Asia, a region with a diverse media landscape and distinct challenges and opportunities for small newsrooms adopting AI.
We received 68 applications, and this year, we welcome 20 participants from 9 countries across the region. As we enter the fourth year of the JournalismAI Academy, we remain committed to providing tailored support that addresses the specific needs of local newsrooms. By focusing on Southeast Asia, we aim to equip newsrooms with practical tools to integrate Artificial intelligence (AI) effectively into their organisations.
Over the years, the JournalismAI Academy has supported small newsrooms worldwide, helping them understand how AI can change their workflows, enhance reporting quality, and better engage their audiences. With this year’s focus on Southeast Asia, the programme continues to build on its mission of enabling smaller newsrooms to adapt to an evolving media landscape.
Thank you to everyone who applied, and congratulations to the selected participants. We look forward to starting this journey and working together to learn new possibilities for journalism in Southeast Asia.
